MILLBILLILLIE
26*27'S., 120*22'E.
Wiluna district, Western Australia
Achondrite, Eucrite (Ca-rich)
Fell on October 1960 at about 1 pm. No specimens were recovered
until 1970. This is a calcium-rich meteorite, thus producing a
shiny black fusion crust. Many well-preserved, oriented
specimens have been found by local Aboriginies. Millbillillie is
a basalt that was rapidly cooled by extrusion to the surface
of its parent body, possibly the asteroid 4Vesta. It is composed
of roughly equal amounts of the plagioclase anorthite and the
pyroxene pigeonite.
